Casinos in Massachusetts are a relatively a new feature of gambling in the state. The gaming commission in Massachusetts was put into place in 2011. However other forms of gambling have been legal for decades and centuries for some. The three casinos in Massachusetts Encore in Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park which is a racino. Plainridge Park started off as a race track. In 1999 betting on simulcast horse races was introduced. They later sold it to Gaming and Leisure Properties who in turn leased it back to Penn National.

The casino in Aquinnah is expected to be completed sooner than the one Taunton by the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe. In Aquinnah they finally won the battle to be allowed to build a casino on their land in 2018.
