Casinos in Massachusetts are a relatively a new feature of gambling in the state. The gaming commission in Massachusetts was put into place in 2011. However other forms of gambling have been legal for decades and centuries for some. The state allows very few casino games venues but it allows state lotteries, race track wagering bingo and a variety of other gambling games. Online casinos and sports betting are still not legalized. This is not entirely surprising seeing as the gambling industry in the sates is still in its early stages. The legal forms of gambling in Massachusetts are:

  • Lottery
  • Commercial / tribal casinos
  • Pari Mutuel gambling
  • Racetrack betting
  • Charitable gambling

Since casinos countrywide shutdown in Mid March because of the Coronavirus, there has been a push for online casino gaming to be legalized. A number of states have made progress and will have legal online casinos operating soon. Hopefully MA lawmakers will follow suit.
