DraftKings Casino Gets the Go-Ahead to Offer Mobile Gaming in West Virginia

Home » DraftKings Casino Gets the Go-Ahead to Offer Mobile Gaming in West Virginia

In the latest move to allowing online gambling, West Virginia has approved the DraftKings Casino product suite this week. Since online casino gaming became legal through the Interactive Wagering Act last year, the DraftKings Casino is the first to get approval.

To get approved, operators have to partner with the state’s four Racinos or the Greenbrier Resort. The DraftKings Casino is partnered with the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races to offer their mobile app, which can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices.

West Virginia has joined Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey in the online industry, which could see tax revenues increase for the state. However, during the COVID-19 crisis, online products didn’t completely supplement land-based losses.

Still, the apps brought in millions and saw a significant traffic increase over the past four months.

DraftKings Casino Approved

DraftKings Casino App Launches

On June 23, the DraftKings Casino app launched in New Jersey, featuring games from IGT, Slingo, and Scientific Games. Also, the DraftKings Live Studio is up and running, allowing players to enjoy Evolution Gaming table games as well.

On Tuesday, the app launched in Pennsylvania, alongside the existing games on the sportsbook app. Then, on Wednesday, the iGaming product launched in West Virginia.

Which can be accessed on the sportsbook or new casino app. But, only residents over 21 can create accounts and gamble through the products in the state.

Michigan Next on the Cards

While online gambling is now legal in Michigan, the Gaming Control Board is still developing rules for mobile gambling. On the official website, state officials reportedly expect to have these rules in place later this year.

Like West Virginia, any online gaming apps have to be affiliated with Class III Gaming casinos to offer separate interactive poker and casino-style products. More states are expected to push legislation through in the coming years. So, you might just see the DraftKings Casino app on your store soon.
